In a Swiss system tournament, players are paired based on their results after each round—winners play against winners, and losers play against losers. This ensures that players face opponents of similar skill levels.

The next round won't begin until all players have completed their games.

If there’s an odd number of players, one player gets a “bye,” meaning they don’t play but still earn a point. The tournament continues for several rounds, and the player with the most points at the end wins.

Each player has 10 minutes per game, with no increment

In the tournament, each player has 10 minutes for the entire game. They can spend as little as 5 seconds or as much as 5 minutes on any move. The key is to finish the game within the 10-minute limit.

If a player runs out of time, they lose the game.

Cheating, including the use of outside assistance, is strictly prohibited in ABCHESS tournaments. Players caught cheating will be disqualified from the current event and banned from future tournaments. The Lichess system and the ABCHESS judging committee work together to identify such players.

For many participants, online tournaments are the only opportunity to compete with others. We ask that all players show respect for their fellow competitors by refraining from using any form of assistance.

Lichess will block a participant only if they break the site’s rules, such as using external assistance (cheating).

If a participant is blocked by Lichess, they will be disqualified from the ABCHESS tournament, and their games will not be reviewed by the referee. The tournament fee will not be refunded. Additionally, the participant may be added to a list of players banned from future online tournaments.

It's important to finish the tournament, even if you're losing. First, it helps the child develop good sportsmanship. Second, playing against stronger opponents gives valuable experience that will help them improve.

Yes, if you are unable to participate in the tournament for valid reasons and inform us at least 12 hours before it starts, we will issue a full refund. However, any additional charges may apply (bank, PayPal), which are non-refundable.

Joining Zoom helps us ensure fair play. We will monitor players through their camera and occasionally listen to the audio to check for any outside help. If we detect any assistance, the player will be disqualified and their points will be canceled.
